Sal Hughes
Between Worlds Sample Track: “One Wish Left” Seacoast listeners who have had the good fortune to catch pianist Sal Hughes at one of the area’s jazz venues know the young artist as an accomplished jazz pianist, one who has played professionally in the Southern Maine/New Hampshire area since the age of fifteen. Now twenty-two, he is very excited to showcase his craft in a new light, with the release of an album of original music titled “Between Worlds,” which will be celebrated with a special performance at Rudi’s in Portsmouth on Thursday, October 20th. As the title suggests, the album reflects Sal’s influences across many musical landscapes to form a world of sound that is true to his own vision. “Jazz has always been my foundation and primary influence; however, it was not simply my goal to write music that could be isolated to one kind of style. Creating music is an organic process, and I wanted to allow my ideas to develop freely with the music, instead of feeling as though I had limitations on where the music should live. I feel blessed that jazz is one of the few genres that can allow for fusions to personally develop” CD Release Celebration: Thursday, October 20, 7-9 pm $5 cover Rudi’s 20 High Street/Five Congress Street Portsmouth, NH Sal Hughes, piano Johanna Hughes, vocals Zachary Lange, trumpet Mike Effenberger, Rhodes/keyboards Robert Gerry, upright bass Jared Steer, drums |
