Cary Kilner's Pick's: Volume 2
By Cary Kilner This week Cary Kilner's featuring songs inspired by his "well-worn beloved Blue Note collection of LPs." Eliane Elias, "Chega De Saudade" Notice the beautiful authentic Brazilian accompaniment with acoustic guitar while she sings in Brazilian Portuguese. She explodes as the trio takes over, with her husband, Marc, on bass. Quite Frankly, Featuring Sam Hirsh, "Pop's Delight" This quartet with pianist Sam Hirsh nails it, he has a beautiful warm sound, and you’ve got to love this groove. Lots of space, taste, and it swings like mad. Sam is right there in the pocket with Cedar Walton and Bill Charlap. The Christian McBride Trio, "I Guess I'll Have to Forget" The Christian McBride trio always inspires, and this mellow bossa nova will pique your spirit. The Trio is Christian Sands, piano; Christian, bass; and Ulysses Owens, drums. Chick Corea's Spanish Heart Band, "Armando's Rhumba" The Spanish Heart Band does a great job of displaying Chick Corea's Latin roots. You'll hear his exquisite accompaniment and the great players he has with him. What about that deep groove? See if you can hear how he effectively uses the rising chord changes in the form of the tune.
